The College Discovery Platform is a modern web application designed to help students discover, explore, and compare colleges across India. It provides an easy-to-use interface where users can search for colleges, apply filters, compare institutions, and view detailed information to make informed academic decisions.
The application works by displaying a collection of colleges and allowing users to search using keywords such as college name, short name, city, state, or tags. Users can refine results using filters like college type, state, minimum rating, and sorting options. Each college has a dedicated details page that presents information about courses, placements, fees, contact details, and student reviews. The comparison feature enables users to compare multiple colleges side by side based on rankings, ratings, fees, placement statistics, and other important metrics. The application also includes loading, error, and empty states to provide a smooth and reliable user experience.
The project is built using Next.js, React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS, following a component-based architecture with reusable UI components, custom hooks, a service layer, and React Context API for state management. This structure makes the application scalable, maintainable, and easy to extend with future backend integration.
This platform is primarily intended for students who are exploring colleges and want to compare different institutions before making admission decisions. It can also be useful for parents, academic counselors, and educational organizations looking for a simple and organized way to evaluate colleges.

Steps
Clone the repository
git clone https://github.com/YOUR_GITHUB_USERNAME/college-discovery-platform.git
Navigate to the project directory
cd college-discovery-platform
Install all dependencies
npm install
Start the development server
npm run dev
Open your browser and visit
http://localhost:3000
Explore the application by searching, filtering, viewing college details, and comparing colleges.
Usage
Launch the application by running npm run dev and open http://localhost:3000 in your browser.
Browse the list of available colleges on the home page.
Use the Search Bar to search colleges by name, short name, city, state, or keywords.
Apply filters such as College Type, State, Minimum Rating, and Sort By to narrow down the results.
Click View Details on any college card to view detailed information, including overview, courses, placements, contact details, and student reviews.
Click the Compare button on college cards to add colleges to the comparison list.
Navigate to the Compare page from the navigation bar to compare selected colleges side by side based on rankings, ratings, fees, average package, and placement statistics.
Remove individual colleges from the comparison list or click Clear All to reset the comparison.
The application also handles loading, error, and empty states to provide a smooth user experience during data retrieval and filtering.
System Requirements
- Operating System: Windows 10/11, macOS, or Linux.
- Node.js: Version 18 or later.
- Package Manager: npm (comes with Node.js).
- Web Browser: Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, or Safari.
- RAM: Minimum 4 GB (8 GB recommended).
- Disk Space: At least 500 MB of free storage.
- Internet Connection: Required for downloading dependencies and accessing the deployed application.
- Code Editor: Visual Studio Code (recommended) for development.
