Blockchain-Based Police Record Management System is a secure and decentralized web application designed to improve the management of police records using a Private Ethereum Blockchain with Proof of Authority (PoA) consensus. The system addresses common challenges in traditional record management, such as unauthorized modification, lack of transparency, and limited auditability.
The application provides separate modules for Police, Forensics, and Court authorities with secure MetaMask-based authentication and role-based access control. Police officers can register FIRs and upload evidence, forensic personnel can submit investigation reports, and court authorities can review verified records and record verdicts. An anonymous evidence submission module allows citizens to securely contribute evidence without revealing their identity.
Large files such as FIR documents, images, videos, and forensic reports are stored using IPFS/Filebase, while only their cryptographic hashes are recorded on the blockchain through Solidity smart contracts. MongoDB stores application metadata such as user information, case details, and evidence references.
By combining blockchain immutability, decentralized file storage, and a modern full-stack architecture, the system provides a transparent, secure, and tamper-resistant solution for police record management.

Known Issues

Installation
Prerequisites
- Node.js (v18 or above)
- MongoDB
- Geth (Go Ethereum)
- MetaMask Browser Extension
- Git
- Visual Studio Code (Recommended)
Installation Steps
- Clone the repository:
git clone https://github.com/your-username/Blockchain-Based-Police-Record-Management-System.git
- Navigate to the project directory:
cd Blockchain-Based-Police-Record-Management-System
- Install dependencies:
npm install
- Start MongoDB.
- Start the Private Ethereum (PoA) network using Geth.
- Connect MetaMask to the private blockchain network.
- Deploy the Solidity smart contracts if required.
- Start the backend server:
npm start
- Open the frontend in your browser and access the application.
The application is now ready for use.
Usage
- Launch the application in the browser.
- Connect MetaMask to the configured Private Ethereum (PoA) network.
- Log in using the appropriate role:
- Police
- Forensics
- Court
- Police users can create FIRs, register cases, and upload digital evidence.
- Evidence files are stored in IPFS/Filebase, while their cryptographic hashes are recorded on the blockchain.
- Forensics users can review evidence and upload forensic reports.
- Court users can verify records and submit verdicts.
- Citizens can securely submit anonymous evidence through the Public Portal.
- Every blockchain transaction is permanently recorded and can be verified using transaction hashes.
